The annual Charity Cricket Week in memory of Don Macaulay, and to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support Nurses took place the week commencing Monday the 24th of July.
Despite the weather not being great the Charity Cricket Week was a success!
Upchurch lost both games but they were played in great spirit and the scores were very close. For the first time we included a 3 course charity lunch in a marquee on the Wednesday so spectators could enjoy the cricket in style. We catered for 48 people and the day was a huge success.
Thursday was a golfing day at Upchurch River Valley Golf Course which was enjoyed by all who took part.
Our finale on Friday saw the return of the popular band Marylebone Jelly. We had concerns that the weather would put people off but we managed to sell 200 tickets, many to locals from Upchurch, and the rain held off for most of the evening.
We raised a total of £2462.58 which was rounded up to give Macmillan £2500!
We would like to thank everyone who supported the week and special thanks go out to our main sponsor Kent Trade Frames also Shaun and Steve O’Meara Butchers for their donation of meat, and a kind donation from an anonymous source.
