It was then time for our children to wave the visitors off and prepare to go home, full of chatter about their new friends and a most enjoyable day. They look forward to visiting Ferques in October and to rekindling their friendships.

Holywell School Welcome Children from Ferques
On Thursday 29th June, Holywell School welcomed
30 children with several staff members and villagers from our twinned schools
in Ferques-Elinghen. It was a lovely
sunny morning and the visitors arrived just after 9am to the smell of bacon
being cooked ready for their bacon sandwiches!
Holywell children from Years 5 and 6 joined the French
children in the hall and made their introductions before tucking in to
breakfast and making some new friendships and rekindling old ones from their
visit to Ferques in October 2016. Staff
from Holywell were joined by members of the Upchurch Twinning Committee as well
as Mrs Heather Westby, one of the
language teachers from Borden School, who helped to translate for the
children.
The day was fast paced with many activities, all planned by
Holywell’s children with guidance from Miss Diwell and Mr Ball. The morning activities were great fun with
children having to communicate with each other to achieve their goals in
‘Bilingual Bingo’, ‘Build a straw tower’ and ‘Chopstick popcorn’, to name a
few.
After a break and some more friendship building, the
children from Holywell joined the visiting children on a marathon around the
school grounds, checking in at our huge 3D London landmarks such as St Paul’s
Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and Houses of Parliament.
Lunchtime was an exciting time outside and the fun continued
as the children joined together to play games planned again by Holywell’s Year
6 children, including games such as Basketball, Numberball and Extreme Rock Paper
Scissors.
At the end of the school day, the visitors prepared to leave
and the children were addressed by Mr Callaghan, who thanked everyone for
coming to visit us and for an thoroughly enjoyable day. He presented them with a small token to
remember us – a Holywell School bookmark. We were then addressed by the Principal of Elinghen School who thanked
us for an exciting day and for the lovely welcome. We were then presented with some gifts from
the school.
It was then time for our children to wave the visitors off and prepare to go home, full of chatter about their new friends and a most enjoyable day. They look forward to visiting Ferques in October and to rekindling their friendships.
