Upchurch WWI Beacon of Light - Special Commemorative Shield
Upchurch’s WWI Beacon of Light - Brazier, Memorial Bench and Special Commemorative Shield have all been installed at the Recreation Ground, Oak Lane ready for Battle's Over - A Nation's Tribute, the international commemoration on November 11th 2018.
The arm on the side of the Beacon's four metre high oak post now has on it a Special Commemorative Shield, one side depicting the trenches and the other with soldiers at ease in respect of their fallen comrades.
Upchurch Parish Council commissioned sign writer Stuart Betts to produce the special Shield in gold leaf with Autumn colours, painted in enamel. Stuart has previously refurbished the four church clock faces at St. Mary's Church.
Please join us at the Beacon of Light on the Recreation Ground on November 11th 2018 to mark 100 years since the guns fell silent at the end of The First World War.
Those millions of brave men, along with the many left at home, did their duty for their country during the dark days of war, so let us do our duty by them, honouring them through Battle's Over.
