Allowing your dog to mess in a public place and not clean it up is an offence and completely unacceptable to all residents!
The problem of dog fouling was once again raised at the Parish Council meeting held on Thursday 2nd January 2020.
Many residents are disgusted with the amount of mess currently being left around the village, in particular, Church Farm Road, The Maisonettes car park in Forge Lane, and in Chaffes Lane.
Dog mess is a health hazard!
Apart from being an unpleasant nuisance if you step in it, fall in it, cycle through it, or wheel your wheelchair through it, dog mess can also be a health hazard.
Both dog and cat faeces can contain the eggs of the roundworm 'Toxocara'. These eggs can survive for several years. If they are ingested or inhaled by humans, they may cause eye, liver, brain and respiratory problems such as asthma, hepatitis and epilepsy.
Do you really want any of these consequences on your conscience?
Be aware of the law
Be a responsible dog owner
Always ensure that you carry a poop scoop or bags with you to clear up your dogs waste.
Do not use the lack of a nearby dog bin as an excuse to leave your dog's waste.
Dog owners can put their bagged dog waste in any public litter bin or take it home to your household green bin.
Fines on the spot
Swale enforcement officers are proactive at enforcing the law and can issue on the spot Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) of £80 if you do not clean up after your dog.
If an FPN is not paid, they can take offenders to court and a fine of up to £1,000 can be imposed.
Registered blind dog owners can’t be fined.
Report it
If you see anyone not cleaning up after their dog, please report any waste you come across to Swale Borough Council who will arrange to have it cleared.
You can also report a dog owner who persistently allows their dog to foul without clearing it up.
Try to give Swale Borough Council as much information as you can, particularly if the offence happens at a regular time and place.
