It follows news that two men were jailed after setting a taxi alight after a night out in Canterbury in December, while the driver was still inside. Several incidents have also been reported in the Borough of Swale.
The council is offering a “No Excuse for Abuse” sticker to every driver, and urging passengers to treat drivers with respect.
Cllr Cameron Beart, deputy cabinet member responsible for licensing at Swale Borough Council says:
“Taxi drivers are an essential method of transportation within our area, and it’s vital they should be protected. Any abuse, be it physical, racial or verbal will not be tolerated and should be reported to the police. We encourage drivers to come forward.”
