The Co-op Garden Fete by David Wood
From 11am to 3pm last Saturday a small fete took place in the leafy Co-op garden on the corner of Horsham Lane and The Street. The aim was to raise money for the British Red Cross, an idea thought up by employees of the Co-op supermarket.
With fine and pleasant conditions tables were set up under the shade of the trees. Jackie Miller and Chris Hannah sold cakes, Rhona and Steve Waters ran the tombola table and offered second-hand books in return for donations, Emma Richardson spent the afternoon face painting while magician Mr Fizz, otherwise known as Terry Knight from Forge Lane entertained children with magical tricks.
A steady flow of people visited the garden and gave their support which resulted in a profit of just over £306 being made from a successful event.
