I am sure all their ex Brownies and families would like to say thank you for all they have done and wish them every happiness for their next adventures.

What next for Upchurch Brownies?

I am pleased to report that Upchurch Brownies are not closing, but are just having a bit of a makeover.

Brownies will now be on a Wednesday evening at Upchurch Scout Hut from 5:45pm to 7:15pm. Guides will remain on a Wednesday evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.

If you have a daughter; granddaughter; neice; neighbour or friend who are aged 7 to 10 years old who would like to start their adventure at Brownies, or a 10 to 14 year old who would like to find out more about Guides please contact Tigger (Tracey Snellings).

Taken from Upchurch Village Hall.

One of the most iconic landmarks on the Medway Estuary, the chimney at Kingsnorth Power Station was demolished this morning, Thursday the 22nd of March at 10:00am.

Kingsnorth was the second tallest structure in Kent after the TV Transmitter Mast at Dover.

Now Kingsnorth is gone, the second tallest structure will be the Transmitter Mast at Wrotham.

The chimney could be seen from the top of the Crystal Palace Transmitter in London and many other places.

Here’s how it looked on Wednesday the 21st of March.

The Power Station closed as a result of the EU's Large Combustion Plant Directive, which requires Power Stations that are not equipped with Flue Gas Desulphurisation technology to close after 20,000 hours of operation from the 1st of January 2008 or the end of 2015, whichever comes first.

Kingsnorth ceased power generation on the 17th of December 2012, having consumed all of its LCPD hours.

Demolition of the coal handling plant commenced on Thursday the The 23rd of October 2014 with a series of controlled explosions. The Station's turbine hall was demolished on the 9th of July 2015. The final part of the boiler house was demolished by explosion on the 27th of July 2017.

Until today, only the concrete chimney remained.

Upchurch Village Hall Management Committee - AGM

Wednesday 11thApril 2018 at 7:30pm

In the rear Hall
 (Please use rear entrance)

Please come and show your support for the committee. They have the very difficult job of balancing the sum needed to run and maintain the hall against keeping the hiring fees competitive. This is without the endless job of raising funds to carry out improvements/major repairs.

Residents of Upchurch, THIS IS YOUR HALL! Most of you use it at some time in your life.

Please attend to hear our plans for the future.

Thank you
