Dog Fouling - Please Clean It Up!

Allowing your dog to mess in a public place and not clean it up is an offence and completely unacceptable to all residents!

The problem of dog fouling was once again raised at the Parish Council meeting held on Thursday 2nd January 2020.

Many residents are disgusted with the amount of mess currently being left around the village, in particular, Church Farm Road, The Maisonettes car park in Forge Lane, and in Chaffes Lane.

Dog mess is a health hazard!

Apart from being an unpleasant nuisance if you step in it, fall in it, cycle through it, or wheel your wheelchair through it, dog mess can also be a health hazard.

Both dog and cat faeces can contain the eggs of the roundworm 'Toxocara'. These eggs can survive for several years. If they are ingested or inhaled by humans, they may cause eye, liver, brain and respiratory problems such as asthma, hepatitis and epilepsy.

Do you really want any of these consequences on your conscience?

Be aware of the law

Be a responsible dog owner

Always ensure that you carry a poop scoop or bags with you to clear up your dogs waste.

Do not use the lack of a nearby dog bin as an excuse to leave your dog's waste.

Dog owners can put their bagged dog waste in any public litter bin or take it home to your household green bin.

Fines on the spot

Swale enforcement officers are proactive at enforcing the law and can issue on the spot Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) of £80 if you do not clean up after your dog.

If an FPN is not paid, they can take offenders to court and a fine of up to £1,000 can be imposed.

Registered blind dog owners can’t be fined.

Report it

If you see anyone not cleaning up after their dog, please report any waste you come across to Swale Borough Council who will arrange to have it cleared.

You can also report a dog owner who persistently allows their dog to foul without clearing it up.

Try to give Swale Borough Council as much information as you can, particularly if the offence happens at a regular time and place.

You can report it online at >> http://bit.ly/2QJb59b

UPDATE: Tuesday 24th December - Notification of Major Gas Works: A2 - High Street, Newington

Following the postponement of our work in November, we’ll be returning to London Road, Newington on Monday 6th January to continue upgrading our gas network.

In close consultation with Kent County Council from Monday 6th January, we'll be working to the east of Newington Industrial Estate, between properties 97 and 111 London Road. For everyone’s safety around our site, we’ll need to install temporary two-way traffic lights for approximately two weeks.

To guarantee gas supplies to properties in the area, we need to revise our programme of works, especially as we have entered the winter period where the gas demand increases. From Monday 20th January 2020, we'll be upgrading our network in the A2, working in Keycol Hill by Rook Lane, Sittingbourne. For everyone’s continued safety, temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place around our work area for approximately six weeks.

We have further work to carry out along the A2, Newington. We’re continuing to plan this and our revised programme of works with the local authority. We will share all the information with you once details have been confirmed.

We appreciate your understanding and patience while we carry out essential gas mains replacement work in the area.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Kind regards
