Newington Festival - Villages Urged to Flex Their Muscles for Charity

Newington Village Festival will be held on Saturday, July 16, on the school field (noon-7pm) and surrounding villages are being encouraged to enter the annual tug-of-war tournament.

Gather your mates together and form a team of 8-10 people for the tournament. Apart from having some fun taking part, you could win the trophy that is currently held by the Three Tuns, Lower Halstow.
With a little help from you, this year's festival can be even more successful and raise even more money for Demelza Children's Hospice and the village school.

Among the other attractions will be a medieval re-enactment camp and fight display, live bands, dance displays, funfair, sideshows and stalls.
Newington is now one of the largest festivals of its kind in Swale, but that means it needs a lot of people to help retain its continued success.

The family friendly festival is organised by parish councillors and willing helpers, but it could do with more people to volunteer an hour, two or three on the day.

To find out how you can help or to offer your services contact Tony Mould at: tonymould1@sky.com
or call: 07590 464700.
For more details about the tug-of-war or to enter a team contact Richard at: sepr@hotmail.co.uk
or call: 07967 332866.

Annual Parish Meeting - 21st April 2016

This year’s annual parish meeting will be held on April 21st 2016 at 7:30pm in the village hall. There is a change to the format this year as originally this was meant to be a meeting for the parish to discuss all relevant matters, and not just a summary of the Parish Council’s year.

Many issues, outside of the Parish Council’s direct control or responsibility, are put to the council for resolution. On their own they cannot always reach a satisfactory conclusion and this meeting should provide an opportunity for residents put their suggestions to the appropriate body. It also offers the opportunity to hear of the various activities and projects of the village organisations and present an opportunity to get involved. Several of your local organisations will be present to talk with residents.

The Parish Council will take the opportunity to gather views from residents regarding play equipment in the village, be it for the Paddock or the Recreation Ground and look for volunteers to work with them to raise funds for any new equipment if required. We have set aside some money to tidy the old play area but want to know what residents want before paying out to do this and potentially create further work if we take the wrong approach!

The Parish Council will facilitate this meeting and produce some minutes to record actions taken by individuals and organisations to move things forward.

We hope you will use this opportunity to come and hear what goes on in your village and to come forward to support projects that require more man power than organisations can provide on their own.

If you would like the opportunity for a representative from your group to speak at the meeting, please contact the Clerk prior to 7th April 2016.

Thank you

Clean for The Queen Upchurch - Thank You

Upchurch Parish Council would like to thank the Volunteers, Holywell School students, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who kindly gave up their time on the 4th and 5th of March 2016 to tidy the Village.

The two days were a great success. The whole of Swale gathered 288 bags of rubbish of which 63 bags were collected in Upchurch, (20 by the school on the Friday and 43 by the Village on the Saturday).

It is hoped that this will become an annual event.

Again a big thank you to everyone who took part.
