UK Power Networks - 105

On 6th September a new national phone number '105' will be launched by electricity network operators for customers to call should they need to report or get information about a power cut in their area.

Key points to note about this service are:

Dialling
105 will put customers through to their local electricity network operator – the company that manages the cables, power lines and substations that deliver electricity into homes and businesses in their area.

105 is just one of the ways that customers can contact their electricity network operator. They can also contact them by phone or via their website, and most network operators are on social media too.

105 is a free service for people in England, Scotland and Wales.

Customers can call 105 no matter who they choose to buy electricity from.

Customers can also call 105 if they spot damage to electricity power lines and substations that could put anyone in danger. If there’s a serious immediate risk, they should call the emergency services too.

Vulnerable customers who would like to sign up to our Priority Services Register can still
call: 0800 169 9970, Email: psr@ukpowernetworks.co.uk

Upchurch Author Set to Release Debut Children's Garden Inspired Picture Book

Upchurch author Joseph Hopkins will be launching his adorable new children’s book ‘Lydia Greenfingers’ on Saturday the 30th of July in WHSmith at Bluewater.

A primary school teacher, Joseph often shares his stories with his pupils in class. The story is about his late Nan 'Lydia Macklin' who lived and worked in Upchurch her whole life.

When Lydia's parents pass away, to her wicked aunt's, she goes to stay. The house is dark, cold and bare, the garden overgrown and without care. Lydia decides to make things right, by growing flowers, tall and bright!

Joseph said: "My first daughter of two, Betty-Sue, would play in my nan's garden for hours and I used to love watching them from the window. They were totally captivated with each other's presence and though years apart in age, they had a connection like the best of friends. When my nan passed away I felt empowered with the need to keep her memory living on, for her and also for Betty-Sue. That is how the story came to life."

"Having used lots of stories in my career for various teaching methods I do feel that my story is unique and rare. The book lightly and delicately touches upon the subject of bereavement but with a beautiful heart-warming resolution."

"Friends and family that have heard the story have said that it is a precious little book, some quoting it made them well up and want to give their little ones a big cuddle. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the story with my little girls and think it would be a welcome family favourite at bed time."

Don Macaulay Cricket Week 2016 at Upchurch Cricket Club

It's fast approaching Upchurch Cricket Club's annual Cricket Week in memory of Don Macaulay, this year taking place from July 25th to the 29th and once again all monies raised throughout the week will be donated to Macmillan Nurses.

Since Cricket Week was revamped we have managed to raise just under £7000 in the last two years and with last year's efforts topped up by Barclays Bank Match Fund it added an extra £3000, bringing the total raised to just under £10,000 in Don's memory and a fantastic sum for of money for the Macmillan Nurses that has made a real difference to people lives.

So once again we are hoping to raise a four figure sum to add to this great cause. We have senior fixtures on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and on Thursday we have a colts 20/20 tournament all day. So if you fancy watching some cricket throughout the week please come and join us, we'd love to see you down there.

We have a fully stocked bar for any thirsty spectators in our new pavilion with large viewing balcony, proudly sponsored by Kent Trade Frames. The BBQ will be running pretty much 24/7 as well so we can promise you'll be well looked after.

We also have something going on most evenings with a quiz night on the Tuesday, race night on the Wednesday and we end the week with marquees up on the Friday evening with live music from Marylebone Jelly, a raffle, auction and plenty of food and drink. This is a ticket only event for more details please contact: lee106stepney@hotmail.com

This is a prior notice for any noise heard in the village on Friday evening, it's a one off night for us and all for a good cause so please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience and rest assured it will not go on any longer than 11:30pm.
