We visited the new Kent Police Interactive Safer Home Store at Bluewater recently where we were shown around by PCSO John Cork and David Crawley, Chairman of the North West Kent Crime Prevention Panel.
The store located on Upper Thames Walk was opened on Wednesday the 26th of July and allows the public to purchase and experience first-hand state of the art crime prevention technology and safety equipment to help prevent and report crime.
Launched by Kent Police in partnership with Bluewater, the store recreates a home living environment and is staffed by members of Kent Police with officers on hand to provide daily crime prevention advice. In addition the store has a private room at the back where the public can discuss sensitive issues such as domestic abuse.
A touch-screen kiosk provides access to digital content, including interactive crime maps with videos and more. A video games station shows how social networking functions in video games work, and how to spot signs of grooming or internet bullying. The console doubles as an entertainment area for children whilst parents and guardians speak to officers, who are present to provide individual support.
The store enables officers and staff to engage with the public in a way that is visible and accessible to all and give victims of crime and antisocial behaviour another way in which to meet officers, discuss any issues and access Kent Police's wide range of services.
Crime prevention products available in-store are sold to the public at very competitive prices, often at just cost value to Kent Police and are therefore cheaper than at regular retail outlets.
The Kent Police Safer Home Store at Bluewater is most definitely worth a visit.
