Latest News from Upchurch WI

The rain did not deter our members from attending the July meeting, and eight lucky ladies went home with a Japanese flower arrangement  made by Tsuyoko Page who came to demonstrate the art of Ikebana - beautiful arrangements of just a few flowers and some greenery. Many of us vowed never again to just "plonk" a bunch of flowers in a vase!

Members were reminded that we have our annual "Posh Tea" on Saturday 19th August in Karen's garden. As we don't have a Meeting in August it is an opportunity for us to get together over a cup of tea and lovely home made food.

The speaker at the September Meeting is Barry Daniels who will be talking about his singing career with Famous People.

We are holding another Quiz evening on 13th October - tables of 6, food provided but please bring your own drink, £6 per head. To book a table call Wendy Pitts on: 01634 362253.

We hold our meetings in the village hall on the second Tuesday of each month (except August) at 7:30pm. We are always happy to welcome new members of all ages.

The road will be fully closed from the double bends as you come out of Lower Halstow (just past Westfield Cottages) for a distance of 100 metres.

The diversion route will be: The Street - Halstow Lane - Forge Lane - The Street – Oak Lane - London Road.

The festival, organised by the parish council in conjunction with Demelza, also features five top Kent bands, including Elton John tribute band Jamie and the Jets.

Other attractions include: a children's magician, tug-of-war, dance and gymnastics displays, chainsaw carver, birds of prey, classic cars, fairground, sideshows, crafts and hobbies stalls, and The Village, a community area. Refreshments include real ales, BBQ, curries, ices and a tea tent.
