A very belated Happy New Year!

As mentioned in Gabriel enough money was raised in our Centenary fund raising effort to buy a second Defibrilator for the village. This has been ordered and it is proposed to site it in the Beckenham Park area. Once again we are very grateful to the village organisations and individuals who helped us raise such a large sum of money.

Latest News from Upchurch WI

2015 has been a very busy year of events to celebrate the Centenary of the National Federation of Women's Institutes. Our WI was formed in March 1931 (84 years). Another 16 years and we will be celebrating our own Centenary but in order to achieve this we need a regular injection of new members with new ideas.

Upchurch WI at the Village Fete Day 2015.

Our programme for 2016 includes guest speakers on a variety of subjects at most meetings, a Quiz Night, a Pamper Day, a Stall at the Village Fete, and a number of "Foody" events (at which we excel!). We meet on the second Tuesday of each month (except August) at 7:30PM in the Village Hall.

New members are always welcome. We wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Latest News from Upchurch WI

Hello Readers. Many of you will have seen in The Gabriel that to celebrate the Centenary of the WI we have been raising money to provide a Defibrillator for the Village.

We have been greatly helped by donations from village organisations and individuals for which we are very grateful. It is to be sited on the outside wall of Snaffles at the junction of Oak Lane and Chaffes Lane. The launch will be next Saturday, 17th October at 10:00am at the site and it would be lovely to see as many of you there as possible to celebrate with us as we officially hand over the Defibrillator to the Parish Council and the Village.

Councillor John Arnold already working to site the new village Defibrillator.
Please note: The Defibrillator will not actually be on site and operational until the day
of the launch on October 17th.

This will be followed by a Coffee Morning in the Village Hall at 10:30am (with lots of our renowned cakes and scones!) where there will be people available to answer any questions you may have about the Defibrilator and its use. We will also have a training session at a later date and you can sign up to register your interest at the Coffee Morning.

The talk at our next WI Meeting on October 13th is by Chris McCooey, entitled "Scandals - Sensational, salacious and sad" it would be good to see some new faces and you can be sure of a warm welcome.

Have you booked a table for our Quiz Night on Friday 23rd October starting at 7:30pm in the Village Hall? Tables of 6, food provided but bring your own drink and glass. You don't have to be a WI member, you don't even have to be female! Just get a group together and join us! Phone Chris on: 07796 860940 or Joyce on: 01634 232346 to book your table.

Latest News from Upchurch WI

August is always the month when we don't have a Meeting - we have an informal get together instead, usually centred around FOOD! This year we held a "Posh Tea Party" in Karen and Dave Taylor's garden in Oak Lane, catered for by the Committee and very much enjoyed by 45 members and friends. It was a very hot day but with the help of three gazebos and the shade of their garage and various shrubs most of us managed to keep cool.

Our next meeting is on the 8th of September at 7:30pm in the Village Hall when the Speaker, Susan Hollings will give us "A taste of Medieval Cooking".

Why don't you come and join us?

Latest News from Upchurch WI

Hello readers, here's an update on the activities of the WI during the last couple of months.

We had a very interesting talk in June from a representative of the Kent Air Ambulance Service. He told us that the service is a registered charity and is funded by donations. £6.5 million is needed every year to keep it going and he asked us to spread the word and encourage people to support them in whatever way they can - after all any one of us might need their help at some time in our lives.

The speaker for the July Meeting didn't think it necessary to let us know that he wouldn't be coming and it was too late to find another one. We were to have learned how to look after our hair but instead we dealt with the monthly business, had an extended "tea and chat" and went home early. You win some, you lose some!

We don't have a meeting in August, but we will be getting together for a "posh tea party" in a member's garden.

We hope to see some new faces on the 8th of September in the Village Hall at 7:30pm when the speaker will be giving us "a taste of medieval cooking".

Latest News from Upchurch WI

First of all a big Thank you to all those who supported our Wine and Wisdom evening last month. The raffle raised £152.00 towards the Defibrillator Fund.

At our May Meeting we discussed and voted on the Resolution that will be debated at the 100th Anniversary meeting at The Royal Albert Hall next month - Failing to care - assessment of need in long term care. This was followed by a supper of four varieties of home made soup with crusty bread which was very much enjoyed.

Outside of the monthly meeting we've had a pamper day where members were able to choose to have a back massage, reflexology or a mini facial, and several members have been learning to crochet. There are several other cookery and craft classes in the pipeline.

The speaker at our meeting on 9th June will be a representative from the Air Ambulance Service. We would be pleased to welcome visitors.

We would also love to see you at our cake stall at the Village Fete on 20th June.
