Pulling Together for Upchurch

Help Upchurch raise a tug-of-war team to represent the village against teams from Newington and Lower Halstow at Newington Village Festival on Saturday, July 15th (Noon - 6:00pm) on the school field.

A team is eight - 10 people, aged over 17, and this year there's a women's contest in addition to the annual men's match. The event starts at 1:00pm and there's a cup and medals for the winners - no experience is necessary.

If you'd like to take part, please contact:
Upchurch PC Chairman, Tyrone Ripley on: 07702 222093 tyrone.ripley@yahoo.co.uk
Upchurch Parish Council Clerk, Wendy Licence on: 01634 363906 clerkupc@outlook.com

The festival gets bigger and better each year, increasing its attractions and free events.

There will be a free children's fancy dress for Years 2 and under; and Years 3 - 6 - and there's a gift for all entrants. Judging at 3:00pm will be followed by a free children's magic show with Mrs Dolly Mixture at 3:30pm.

An Elton John tribute show with Jamie and the Jets (12:15pm) kicks off the first of two free concerts. The second features: Marylebone Jelly (1:45pm); The Stress Monkeys (3:00pm); Key Street (4:00pm) and The KickBacks (5:00pm).

Among other attractions are: dance and gymnastics displays; birds of prey; chainsaw carver; classic cars; WWI living history group; fairground; sideshows; craft stalls; The Village; food and drink, including BBQ, curries, ices, real ales and teas.

The family-friendly festival, organised by the Parish Council in conjunction with Demelza Children's Hospice, is one of the largest events of its kind in Swale. There's a free programme and admission is £2, under 16s free. Dogs are not allowed on the school premises.
